POSITION

SUMMARY:

 

Transitional position within the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program, where the employee will seek to improve knowledge and skills relation to the performance of general Medical Assisting, by providing nursing care to patients under supervision of Clinical Educator and Preceptors, including assisting with exams or procedures, patient education, and maintenance of clinical equipment and of medical records.

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Completion of CCMA exam with passing score before transitioning into role.
  1. Completion of 2-week training program with the Clinical Educator, that will include but is not limited to: taking

vitals, injections, EKG’s, other office procedures, intake process and computer training.

  1. After completion of the 2-week training, 6 weeks of training (3 weeks in Primary Care and 3 weeks in Specialty Departments) will be completed, where the Medical Assistant Apprentice will gain back-office training in these offices within The South Bend Clinic. The Medical Assistant Apprentice will be paired with a Preceptor at each office rotated to.
  2. Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
  1. Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  2. Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  3. Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.
  4. Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.
  5. Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals and/or authorizations and documents in NextGen.
  6. Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
  7. Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
  8. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  9. Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
  10. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.
  11. During this Phase, Medical Assistant apprentice will apply to open positions within the Clinic.

 

  1. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Certification/License

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program completion.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Team player, professional, and customer service oriented.  Proficient computer skills including EMR, highly organized, ability to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment.  Able to work with diverse patient base of all ages.  Assist with clinical procedures specific to department.  Perform basic back-office skills including medication administration, injections, bandaging, and accurately collect height, weight, and BP.  In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the physician and require minimal supervision.  Prior medical office experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements: Medium Work- Exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects. 

Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading. 

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electricity, high places, or chemicals.
