POSITION:  Surgical Procedure Assistant

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Assists with surgical procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Standard

  1. Provides assessment of medical/service needs of patients to ensure high quality care and optimal patient flow.
  2. Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms per department protocol.
  3. Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
  4. Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  5. Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  6. Appropriately responds to emergency situations.
  7. Maintains accurate and current logs for equipment. Ex. Refrigerator temp, autoclave, eye wash, crash cart.
  8. Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals, and/or authorizations and documents in NextGen.
  9. Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.
  10. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  11. Takes initiative to seek out tasks and duties or to assist others as necessary.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
  13. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
  14. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines as set forth in Clinic policies and practices. 

Dermatology

  1. Required to scrub in for surgical procedures and assist physician. This will be required a minimum of 20% of a full time equivalent’s duties.
  2. Obtains patient consent for surgery, prep, and drapes the patient in a sterile manner and administers local anesthesia.
  3. Accurately and discreetly schedules, reschedules, cancels, and/or confirms patient appointments with provider per department protocols.
  4. Completes complicated suture removals and assesses wound for infection.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certification/License:

Must have completed a medical assistant certification program or have equivalent experience. Surgery or wound care experience preferred in Dermatology.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:

Detail oriented, excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to efficiently multi-task in a highly productive clinical setting. Familiarity with various surgical instruments and up to date on OSHA regulations, safety procedures and equipment. Must maintain a sterile setting at all times during surgical procedures. Ability to anticipate the needs of the physician. Must be a team player and professional at all times. Must be patient focused.
