POSITION: HIM Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: The HIM Manager functions in a fully accountable role with respect to managing the day-to-day operations of all HIM related activities for the facility to ensure that system goals and objectives are met. Provides supervision and guidance to employees in HIM to include hands on assistance as needed. Collaborates with the Director of HIM in the design, development, transition, and implementation of HIM functions to align HIM's growth and change to fully support the population health and operational planning for the organization's growth and reimbursement endeavors.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Supervises all Health Information Management employment and their training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Implements system strategies for HIM activities including, but not limited to, document imaging, transcription, release of information,
forms standardization and will further our abstracting activities to support the auditing of the medication module and diagnostic resulting
performed by clinical staff.
b. Fully responsible for the development, review, and implementation of the HIM Guidelines to ensure that the department employee performance aligns
with all guidelines in The South Bend Clinic Employee Handbook.
c. Develops regular statistical data and creates routine production reports to ensure that quality control and staffing levels remain accurate and capable
of supporting the clinic's patient care needs.
d. Oversees computer functions inherent to HIM such as patient merges, patient demographic edits, and EMR documentation amendments and
corrections of documentation.
e. Assists other department managers with questions concerning HIM and Record Retention guidelines and policies.
f. Oversees the process of receiving, prepping, scanning and quality review of clinical documentation received from various sources to ensure that
quality and turn around time standards are met.
g. Develops and performs new employee training and HIM department orientation and facilitates the candidate selection for new employees in
conjunction with the director of HIM. Maintains the
up dating of all HIM job descriptions in coordination with the Human Resources departments review.
h. Adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets.
i. Performs corrections in the Time Keeping System to include approving time cards and PTO requests.
j. Performs entries in Empower as needed to keep employee data current.
k. Performs provider reviews in preparation of statistics for HIM Committee meetings, attends HIM Committee meeting and prepares the minutes and
l. Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
m. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
n. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.
o. Fully compliant with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures to support the Director of HIM and perform as back-up trainer for HIPAA new hire
orientation whenever necessary.
p. Coordinates with the Director of HIM to ensure that the EHR database is accurate, complete, and accessible only to authorized personnel.
Three (3) years of Health Information Management experience required with at least one year of direct manager/supervisor responsibility. Bachelor's Degree or related combination of experience and/or training, with RHIT or RHIA required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and in various health-care related software systems as required. Demonstrates competence in both oral and written grammar. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
